Dear Netflix,
We’ve been together for years. Almost since the beginning. I supported you in the early years. I carried a really big plan. I talked you up to anyone I knew. Blockbuster, I’d say, is the past. You know you can get movies in the mail! I converted my mom from Blockbuster. We had such a good thing going.
When you added instant viewing on PS3, 360 and Wii, I was really excited. I didn’t have to drag out all seven seasons of Buffy or three seasons of Veronica Mars and get up and down changing DVDs. And for a while, you were adding tons of stuff all the time. Not always great stuff. I don’t know anyone racing to watch Columbo. Or all billion Masterpiece Theaters. But the good seemed to balance out the bad.
Until now. First it was that horrid update that makes it impossible to find the new releases. Or any releases for that matter. You can’t search by Network. A lot of things are in the wrong category so unless you know a specific title, you’ll never find anything good. You’ve taken away Veronica Mars. And before that, the dubbing was off even though I reported it for a month. You tell me there’s new episodes of shows and there aren’t. You’ll put the same tv shows as a new release for months. Date Night is not a new release. Neither is The Social Network. Actor lists are not complete. So good luck looking for a specific actor.
And the big screw you moment…learning about the price plan change in the NEWS before I heard it from you. A year ago, if there was a glitch, I’d immediately get an email saying we had a small credit on our account. I’d regularly get emails asking how the quality of what I watched was. Slowly, this has stopped and it was really beyond horrid to hear about something so big from the news. Those prices changes were major. I’d always supported previous price changes because you’d been adding more shows and better movies. Wait times had gone down. It seemed like you were the first company to get big that still cared about their customers. Such a refreshing change.
What more are we exactly getting with this price change? Because your blog is a little on the rude side. It’s not financially sound for you to keep giving us a good deal? The last I checked, you are making over a hundred MILLION dollars. What, that’s not enough? You need more right? Ah, just like every other company out there. Screwing the customers while making millions. GREAT. And in the process, Blockbuster is going bankrupt. Stores closed. People lost their jobs. So how long until a new company rides into town and does the same thing to you?
A lot of people cut back on their cable and relied on you. I can’t live without cable so I’m not one of them. But those same people are fed up. They were promised more instant shows and movies with the instant only package and so far, they’ve gotten zilch. Sony’s stuff was pulled. Lots of really big changes with no contact with your customers. How long do you expect to survive doing this?
At my peak, I was getting 5 discs at a time. Slowly, as your quality as gone down, so has my plan. And as of today, I’m only getting one disc at a time. I’m sending a message. That message is STOP SCREWING THE PEOPLE WHO PUT YOU AT THE TOP. My entertainment budget always had Netflix at the very top. But no more. You don’t deserve it.
Sincerely,
